A Visiting Professor/Grand Rounds series is conducted at Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital with an average of 12 speakers per year, including oral board examiners.

Noon case conferences conducted by Radiology attendings occur on Thursdays and Fridays in Grand Rapids. In addition, several monthly recurring conferences covering topics such as vascular ultrasound, cardiac CT/MRI, body imaging, PET/CT, and ER imaging are provided (Please see conference schedule links for details).

A dedicated curriculum to prepare first year residents for call runs July to December and includes a weekly call conference as well as a series of (half days dedicated to call prep) lectures in the late fall.

Every other week, residents gather on Friday mornings for chief organized conferences. These include lectures based on relevant journal articles and additional case conferences and lectures.

In addition to occasional noon conferences on Wednesdays, the residents also gather on Monday and Wednesday to view review DVD series, including UCSF and University of Washington.

For 29 weeks of the year, residents spend one day per week at MSU for didactic teaching sessions. An average of 60-80 radiology residents from around Michigan gather to hear lectures from visiting professors, including many oral board examiners (Please see MSU conference links for details).

During the other 23 weeks of the year, residents stay in Grand Rapids and utilize Tuesday afternoons for American College of Radiology teaching file reviews or mock oral case conferences.

Our faculty is committed to our resident’s success, as evidenced by the 25-30 mock oral sessions that they conduct for our senior residents each spring.
