Interview Day
We interview on Thursday mornings beginning at 7:50 a.m. We do ask you to meet us prior to that in the main lobby of the Spectrum Health - Butterworth Campus hospital so we have time to walk to the residency offices.
The day begins with a PowerPoint presentation that provides information about the program and should answer a lot of questions you may have about the program. We then divide the applicants into two groups. One group will tour the hospital, Meijer Heart Center and emergency department with one of our residents. The other group will stay in the residency offices to interview one-on-one with the Program Director, Associate Program Director, one of our core faculty members and one of our residents. Once interviews and tours are complete, the groups switch places. After lunch, you have the option of staying to shadow in the department or leaving for your next destination.
We offer lodging for the night before interviews at one of the downtown hotels and a get-together with the residents at one of the local restaurants for dinner. The dinner is optional for applicants.
Number of positions per year
Each year ten new resident positions are available.
How to Apply
We only accept applications through the Electronic Residency Application
Service (ERAS). Include your Dean's letter and three letters of
recommendation from faculty who have worked with you in a clinical
setting. If you have research experience, a letter from your mentor
would be helpful. We also require a personal statement, medical school
transcript and a score from your USMLE Step I to complete your
application. A USMLE Step II score is preferred. Application deadline is
November 15.
