Role of Mentor (steps 1, 2, 6)

  • Assist in formulating a research question
  • Assist in identifying important variables to consider
  • Advise patient recruitment/selection process and data collection
  • Faculty sponsor for IRB application
  • Co-author presentations/publications

Role of Resident/Learner (steps 1-7)

  • Function as project manager
  • Collect topics for projects
  • Identify mentor
  • Discuss research topics with mentor
  • Formulate a question
  • Consult with GRMERC Research Department
  • Develop protocol
  • Submit IRB application to GRMERC for review/submission assistance
  • Implement study as designed
  • Lead dissemination efforts (presentations/publications)
  • Renew/close study

Role of Program/Research Director (steps 1, 2)

  • Create environment conducive to and supportive of research
  • Recruit and develop faculty mentors
  • Monitor & facilitate progress of learners’ research
  • Facilitate communication with mentors and GRMERC Research Department
  • Assist in review of abstracts, presentations and manuscripts

Role of GRMERC (steps 1-6)

Provide consultation and assistance with:

  • Idea/protocol development
  • Research design
  • Resource identification
  • IRB submission
  • Statistical analysis
  • Poster review/printing
  • Oral presentation consultation
  • Abstract/manuscript review
