TIMELINE FOR RESEARCH

In the following text, the phrase “clinical study” is defined as any non-case report study design (e.g., case series, prospective trial, animal study, community study).

Although prepared as a three year plan, the timeline for research can be used as a general guide for any program.  Disciplines vary in length. Some programs have more time to complete the outlined tasks than others.  Programs with very limited time (e.g. Transitional Year) can choose to develop a case report only.   However, those involved in fellowship training programs are still expected to participate in clinical studies.

The overall goals for residents are to:

      1) Initiate and develop an interesting or novel case report to:

              • Present at one or multiple meetings

              • Develop into a manuscript suitable for
submission to a peer reviewed journal

      2) Initiate and develop an interesting clinical study to:

              • Present at one or multiple meetings

              • Develop into a manuscript suitable for
submission to a peer reviewed journal
