Interview Day
We interview on Thursday mornings beginning at 8:45 am and afternoons at 1:30 pm with a combined lunch amongst our applicants at 12 pm. We do ask you to meet us prior to the interviews or the lunch (depending on which session you are signed up for) in the main lobby of the Spectrum Health - Meijer Heart Center so we have time to walk to the residency offices.
The lunch session provides information about the program and offers a brief PowerPoint presentation; this should answer a lot of questions you may have about the program. For interviews in either session, we divide the applicants into two groups. One group will tour the hospital, Meijer Heart Center, Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital, MSU College of Human Medicine and emergency department with one of our residents. The other group will stay in the residency offices to interview one-on-one with the Program Director, Associate Program Directors, one of our core faculty members and one of our residents. Once interviews and tours are complete, the groups switch places. On your interview day you have the option of staying to shadow in the department or leaving for your next destination.
We offer lodging for the night before interviews at one of the local bed & breakfasts or downtown hotels and a get-together with the residents at one of the local restaurants for dinner. The dinner is optional for applicants.
Each year ten new resident positions are available.
