The Grand Rapids Medical Education and Research Center for Health Professions offers 19 positions in the Transitional Year Program. All applications are accepted through ERAS.
The Transitional Year Residency Program is a one-year training experience that allows residents to fulfill the clinical prerequisite for specialty training. Career paths are varied, with many residents entering specialties that include anesthesiology, radiology, physical medicine and rehabilitation. Some other residents have made prior public health or armed forces commitments, while some have not decided on a specialty track and seek a general year to increase their exposure to clinical medicine.
The Grand Rapids Medical Education and Research Center for Health Professions is the sponsoring institution for all graduate medical education/residency programs in the city. Spectrum Health Butterworth & Blodgett campuses and Saint Mary's Health Care are the teaching sites for all of the residents.
